Newport, RI (May 24, 2024) - The Sailing Foundation of New York (SFNY) is relieved and thankful that a settlement was reached between US Sailing and America One Racing. The SFNY looks forward to continuing to work with all parties on behalf of all sailor athletes.
To that end, the SFNY Board has authorized the immediate release of $125,000 in support of the Paris 2024 US Olympic Team. These grants will be issued as direct expense offset - or direct expense payment - to sailors between now and the Paris Games. A portion of these funds were raised in September 2023 at the seventh SFNY Golden Spinnaker event, hosted and supported by the New York Yacht Club (NYYC). “This has been a tough situation for the sailing community, and even tougher for our athletes heading to Marseille. The SFNY has not wavered in our 25-year commitment to supporting sailors in international competition. We are well-positioned to support the 2024 Olympic Team in these pivotal remaining weeks,” notes SFNY President and Co-Founder Thomas Stark. In addition, the SFNY has set in motion fundraising efforts for promising sailors seeking to compete in the Olympic Games 2028. “In order for the US to be successful in Olympic sailing, all parties and stakeholders must support our athletes - from the early stages of development through what can be seven to ten years of Olympic preparation,” urges Stark. The SFNY is grateful for the support of the yachting community; our donors throughout the country; partner organizations such as the Sailing Museum & National Sailing Hall of Fame; and partner Yacht Clubs. ### |
