SFNY Announces Grant to US Teams Competing in Inaugural Offshore Double Handed World Championship7/18/2024
Newport, RI (July 18, 2024): The Sailing Foundation of New York (SFNY), along with one of their trusted partners, the New York Yacht Club (NYYC), is pleased to announce grants totaling $50k to sailor athletes representing the US in the Inaugural Offshore Double Handed World Championship, to be held late September in Lorient, France. The Championship is set to host roughly 20 mixed teams and will include both overnight and long-distance races.
The US teams of Erica Lush/Tim Kent and Barbara Karpinska/Vladimir Kulinichenko will each receive a grant of $15k from the SFNY, and an additional $10k from the Performance Sailing Committee of the New York Yacht Club (NYYC). These funds will be distributed through the SFNY in accordance with the foundation’s standard policies and procedures. SFNY Co-founder, President and Board Chair Tom Stark affirms the importance of a wide net in support of athletes: “It’s a great example of the SFNY and our network of partners and collaborators across the US working together to fund sailors in international competition. We are all about the athletes and are proud to consistently focus on supporting their goals.” NYYC Commodore L. Jay Cross echoes the importance of collaboration in the sailing community: “We are proud to support our member athletes in competition, both domestically and abroad. The SFNY provides an efficient platform and collaborative approach where grants go directly to the athletes, to help with their significant campaign costs.” SFNY funds will be distributed immediately. The Foundation Board and NYYC Performance Sailing Committee will be cheering on these teams in September. ### |
