What to expect with an SFNY Account
Application Process
Athletes and organizations are welcome to apply for an account with the SFNY.
Once a completed application is received, review will take place to ensure that the potential account will be used for activities that adhere to the Foundation's core objectives. If approved, the account will be activated and the athlete or organization may begin soliciting funds that should be directed to the SFNY account for reimbursement of qualified expenses. The account will remain open until the campaign is terminated or the event is complete. In submitting this application, applicant understands that reimbursement is limited to the event or campaign specified in said application. Funds not used for that specific purpose will be moved to the SFNY unrestricted account six months after the conclusion of the event or campaign. In addition, the applicant certifies that expenses submitted for reimbursement have not and will not be submitted to any other entity for reimbursement.
Grants
Periodically, the Foundation reviews grant applications and may award funds to an athlete or organization for specific events or activities (not for general support). A comprehensive review is required by the Board and funds are limited. While there is no set timetable for grants, the Board makes every effort to review twice a year if funds are available. At present, no funds are available for grants. In submitting a grant, each applicant understands that reimbursement is limited to the event or campaign specified in said grant application. Funds not used for that specific purpose will be moved to the SFNY unrestricted account six months after the conclusion of the event or campaign. In addition, the applicant certifies that expenses submitted for reimbursement have not and will not be submitted to any other entity for reimbursement.
Accounts
Once an account is activated, we accept checks, securities or Paypal as forms of donations. Please be advised, we do not accept credit cards at this time. As required by the IRS, the Foundation acknowledges donations of $250 or more. Upon request, we will generate donor acknowledgement letters for lesser amounts.
All expense submissions and receipts should be scanned and emailed with a cover sheet totaling the program-related expenses. Qualified expenses include food, travel, lodging, coaching, entry fees and boat running expenses. Funds are not to be used for the purchase of fixed assets. Funds are generally disbursed within five business days after receipt of expense reports.
For Donors
Respectfully, donation checks must be made out to the Sailing Foundation of New York in order to be processed. Donation directions can be designated in the memo line. Thank you.
